Job summary

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) role is an exciting opportunity to continue to evolve and renew the strategic direction of the organization by working to develop and execute a robust strategic planning process and leading the stewardship of fundraising development.  The CEO will be a natural "connector” and a consistent, responsive communicator who can develop relationships and engage with all community stakeholders including: the Board of Directors, staff, present and past donors and families, local support groups, hospitals and staff, businesses and all levels of government. At the same time, the CEO will bring the requisite business management skills to drive fundraising development in tandem with effective operational administration.

General Responsibilities

  • Lead, and direct, day to day operations of the House;
  • Creation and implementation of appropriate systems, policies and procedures for the effective management and control of operational and financial plans;
    • Plan, develop and implement relationship management initiatives for all stakeholders including the building of regional relationships within the community and RMH Global
    • Provide strategic and inspirational leadership to staff, consultants and volunteers, to meet and exceed strategic goals and objectives as approved by the Board;
    • Development of the management and staff team.
    • Support for the Board of Directors in fulfilling its governance responsibilities;  and
      • Ensure the House meets or exceeds all legal, ethical, professional and internally established requirements including Canada Revenue Agency, AFP, and Imagine Canada Ethical Code.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Organization Planning and Direction

  • Lead the process to develop a 3-year strategic plan for the organization for Board approval;
  • Lead the implementation of a Strategic Plan as approved by the Board providing quarterly evaluation of progress;
  • Develop annual business plans and budget for board approval ensuring alignment between the strategic plan, annual operating plan, budget and individual staff goals;
  • Lead the effective and efficient implementation and execution of annual business plans and budget with staff team;
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies to grow strategic funding, ensure stewardship of donors and fundraising and sponsorship initiatives;
  • Lead the development and implementation of programs and services that enrich, extended and build capacity to serve families in the region.

Organization Team, Culture and Performance

  • Lead effective recruitment, assessment and development of organization talent needed to building a high-performing, family-focused team that helps lead the execution of the organization’s strategic and annual plans;
  • Further build and enhance a culture of success, innovation and continuous improvement ensuring that all staff are accountable for goals, aligned with the organization’s strategic plan, and are managed using effective performance management processes and tools;
  • Develop, or oversee the development of plans, policies, programs and initiatives for recommendation to the Board to achieve the House Vision, Mission and Strategic Plan and/or for implementation by management and staff.

House Promotion and Relationship Building

  • Build, strengthen and maintain relationships with local government and other Houses, community organizations and businesses in Southwestern Ontario to help achieve the strategic priorities of the organization’s mission;
  • High emotional intelligence and awareness exhibited through understanding that it’s about the organization and the mission first; empowering others to take the lead; and the ability to provide compassionate care to the Families the House services;
  • Build, strengthen and maintain engagement and communication with volunteers, the Red Shoe Society, key community groups and leaders across Southwestern Ontario;
  • Cultivate, nurture, secure and steward growth of fundraising revenue, leveraging the programs and services provided to the entire region as a means to secure new donor opportunities;
  • In partnership with the Board, continue to build the organization’s brand and community confidence as an important investment partner and an integral part of patient-centered healing and care;
  • Play a proactive role in working with Ronald McDonald House Canada and other Houses in identifying and addressing key issues, opportunities and best practices;
  • Serve as official spokesperson for RMHCSWO to the general public, media and other organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possesses a minimum of 6 to 8 years of experience in a senior management role, ideally with board governance experience;
  • University degree or college diploma in related field;
  • Has demonstrated a track record of good relations with key influencers such as, community and business leaders, relevant boards, hospitals and government;
  • Has had experience in revenue growth/fund development and promotion of brand recognition;
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate, empower, and retain outstanding staff, combined with a strong commitment to professional development;
  • Strong, successful experience working with Not for Profit Boards;
  • Demonstrated visible management style based on trust, integrity and collaboration;
  • Passion for the mission of RMH;
  • CFRE designation an asset; and
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS:

  • Proven ability to lead strategic visioning and execution of the plan;
  • Experience with the not-for-profit sector;
  • Proficient in the following computer applications:  fundraising & database management software, MS Office Suite and Internet;
  • Excellent written (i.e. creative writing and editing) and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent planning, implementation, analytical and evaluation skills;
  • Excellent presentation skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; and
  • An ability to provide confidential and conscientious leadership within a highly sensitive environment ensuring and supporting the needs of RMH guest families.
