Thames Valley Children’s Centre -- Chief Executive Officer

INVITATION
Thames Valley Children’s Centre is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and visionary leader as Chief Executive Officer to build on the strengths of our past accomplishments and steer our organization to new heights in changing the lives of children, youth and their families. 

BACKGROUND
Since 1949, Thames Valley Children’s Centre (TVCC) has been working with children and youth to help them reach their full potential. Today, a wide range of services and supports are provided for young people with physical disabilities, communication disorders, developmental delays and autism spectrum disorders to support them in attaining the best available quality of life and health. In partnership with local and regional agencies, TVCC annually serves more than 9,000 children, youth and their families from birth to age 19 across Southwestern Ontario in over 700 locations. 

Through a multi-disciplinary team of professionals, we encourage and support children, youth and their families to be active participants in their communities. Thames Valley Children’s Centre is available to families in a ten-county area through our London Centre, regional office locations, videoconferencing, community partnerships and unique outreach programs and services that travel to the child.

POSITION
The Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the effective management and day-to-day operations of Thames Valley Children’s Centre (TVCC) within the corporate by-laws, policy/strategic framework, and budgeting guidelines established by the Board of Directors.  

ACCOUNTABILITY
Reports to:  The Board of Directors

Direct Reports:  Service Directors and Executive Assistant
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Executive Leadership
  • Provide effective leadership and direction to the TVCC leadership team and staff;
  • Initiate the development of vision led, strategic and long-range plans in partnership with the Board of Directors;
Operational Planning and Management
  • Develop the organization’s operational plan and financial plan, in accordance with strategic direction and long-range plan;
  • Maintain an efficient and effective organization capable of delivering the highest quality of service to the children, youth and families who are TVCC’s clients using a family-centered care approach;
Financial Management
  • Secure appropriate financing and funding to meet the organization’s needs and ensure the effective utilization of the organization’s fiscal resources;
  • Manage the organization’s financial resources, including the development and control of the annual operating budget for Board approval;
Communications and Public Relations
  • Develop and implement effective systems of communication throughout the organization;
  • Develop and implement effective community and government relations programs to promote community and government involvement in progressive legislation, policy and programs related to children and youth who have disabilities;
Human Resources and Board and Volunteer Management
  • Ensure that the organization has competent, qualified staff at each appropriate level to provide the services and programs essential to the achievement of its vision, mission, strategic plans and goals;
Advocacy
  • Maintain constructive relationships with the Ontario Association of Children’s Rehabilitation Services to further the aims of the organization and its clients;
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with other care providers to enhance a region-wide continuum of care and services;
Compliance
  • Provide regular reporting on all aspects of the organization to the Board of Directors and respond to their direction;
  • Ensure TVCC complies with all laws, regulations, agreements and policies of the Board and those government agencies to whom the organization is responsible;
  • Ensure ongoing Accreditation for TVCC
Travel
  • Travel through-out the region, and some overnight trips may be required

POSITION COMPETENCIES
Professional Competencies
  • Post graduate degree in health sciences, social sciences, public administration, business or a related field
  • Certification with Canadian College of Health Leaders
  • Over 10 years of senior level leadership experience in a non-profit organization
  • Proven track record of success in financial and operational oversight, fostering relationships, team growth and an ability to cultivate and work effectively with a Board of Directors 
  • Experience working with children and their families (or pediatrics) an asset
Technical Competencies
  • Exemplary communication skills, both internally and externally, to advocate for the organization, develop strong relationships with staff and stakeholders, and speak publicly to community and funding groups
  • Working knowledge and experience with regulatory bodies, Ministry, and children service sector partners 
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and general management best practices 
  • Analytical abilities and problem-solving skills
